Introduction

Dear Expectant Parent(s),

We are Terry and Matthew! Thank you for taking the time to view our profile and learn our story. It is our pleasure to introduce ourselves to you as prospective parents and share our dream of having children.

Our story started on an online dating website. At the time, we were living about an hour from each other. Matt resided in Massachusetts, and Terry lived in Rhode Island. After communicating for a few weeks, we decided to go on our first official date. We went to an art museum, which couldn’t have been more perfect, considering Terry is an artist and we are both passionate about art and history. Fortunately for us, the date was wonderful, and we have now been happily married for five years.

From the start of our relationship, both of us knew that children were in our future. After a year of being married, we decided that we were ready to start a family. We tried on our own for a year only to discover we were infertile and sought help from doctors. Initially, we were excited and hopeful, but after two years and many failed IVF cycles, we concluded that we were not going to be able to have a biological child. While it was difficult to process, it helped us realize that being parents was a lifelong dream that neither one of us was ready to give up. Now, we are so excited to welcome a child into our hearts and life through adoption.

About Terry

My journey started in a small town that consisted of old farms and new housing developments. My childhood home was a log cabin built by my father, mother, family, and friends. The log cabin sits on farmland, and I helped on the farm. My family raised animals, grew vegetables in the garden, and hay in the fields. I spent a lot of time playing outside and swimming in our pool with my sisters.

My childhood was incredible; I only have positive memories of feeling happy and having fun. My mom taught me how to garden, cook, and be creative. She is responsible for nurturing and guiding me to becoming an independent, caring, happy, genuine, and successful woman, and is my inspiration for motherhood.

Even as a young child I knew I wanted to work with children and be a teacher. I decided to pursue a career in early childhood education with a focus on process art. I’ve been working in childcare now for seven years. I firmly believe that teaching is my calling; I feel such a sense of pride, accomplishment, and pure joy every time the look of wonder and excitement comes over a child’s face after learning and experiencing something new.

I look forward to going to work every day and absolutely love what I do. My students are my whole world, and I can’t wait for the day that I can experience the joy of being a mom. I have so much knowledge and love to give, and there are so many experiences I want to share with a child.

About Matthew

I grew up in a small town close to Boston. It was a quiet and friendly place with many community activities and events. I spent time with my grandmother, who lived close to Chinatown in downtown Boston, which helped educate and expose me to my Chinese heritage and culture.

As a child, my mother always expected me to live up to my full potential. She always wanted the best for me. I have fond childhood memories of spending time with my dad, from getting an old-fashioned donut from Dunkin and going to Boston Celtics Basketball games with him. I have a great relationship with my parents and appreciate everything they did and still do, for me.

As a child, I was always encouraged to try new things. I played many sports including basketball, kung fu, and tennis. I started playing tennis as a pre-teen and played through high school and college. Tennis is an activity that I look forward to sharing with a child.

I have always had an interest in robotics and mechanics. Throughout school, I majored in robotics and participated in various robotics competitions. After college, I realized that my interests lied with cars and motorcycles, and becoming a mechanic would be the career path for me. I have now been working as an automotive technician for 14 years.

Terry and I have always wanted a family and I am ready to be a father. Being a parent is so important to me. I look forward to sharing my hobbies, interests, and knowledge with a child.

Our Home

We discovered our lovely, single-family ranch nestled into a quiet and charming neighborhood at the end of a dead-end street. Five years later we are still in that house and couldn’t be happier.

There is an in-law apartment in the basement, which we eventually want to turn into a home daycare. Currently, the space serves as a guest bedroom and game room. Our living space consists of three bedrooms, two full bathrooms, two kitchens, a dining room, a living room, and an art studio. We have a nice-sized backyard that consists of open grassy areas and flower and rock gardens.

The surrounding area is full of lush trees and wildlife. The house is bordered on three sides by woods and creates a beautiful and private green space. We live in a small and quiet neighborhood with a mix of older couples and new young families. Our neighbors are friendly and active. They are always working on their property or walking through the neighborhood visiting friends. On a nice day, you can hear lawnmowers going and children laughing.

We love living in central Massachusetts. There are family-friendly activities all around us like town fairs, fun parties, and farmers markets. There is a park and conservation land within walking distance from our home that has walking trails and a playground.

We can’t wait to welcome a child into our home and take trips to the park, go on walks, and visit the town fairs and activities.

Our Interests

As a child, Terry was always encouraged to try new things and played many sports including gymnastics, soccer, softball, volleyball, and swimming. She fell in love with swimming at a young age and swam competitively for many years. We look forward to encouraging a child to be active, and will absolutely spend plenty of time at the pool!

Most of Terry’s life is built around her love of all forms of art. She is a visual artist, but her other hobbies include reading, film, photography, music, and performing arts.

Matt has always had a great appreciation for martial arts. He developed his interest through studying Kung Fu as a child and Wing Chun as an adult. Being a mechanic, Matt enjoys cars of all kinds – he is even restoring a vintage car at home given to us by Terry’s father.

Motorcycles are Matt’s greatest passion. He started riding in his mid-twenties and fell in love. He currently owns a bike, which he treasures, and rides it any chance he gets. Terry occasionally joins him as a passenger on short trips and adventures.

We enjoy playing tennis together, going to art and history museums, going on day trips and sightseeing. We are also very passionate about science fiction and fantasy literature and film. Some of our favorites include Star Wars, Lord of The Rings, Harry Potter, Star Trek, and DC and Marvel. We also spend time watching documentaries, educational TV, and anything history-related.

We have so many activities we love individually and as a couple. We can’t wait to share our hobbies and explore new interests as a family of three!

Our Family

Our family is extremely important to us. We are truly grateful for our family and are fortunate to have such incredible people in our lives!

Terry grew up in a small town in Massachusetts with her parents, two younger sisters, and many pets on their family farm. Both of Terry’s parents come from large families, and as a result, she has a huge extended family. Most of her cousins were raised in the same town, therefore are as close to her as siblings or best friends.

Matt was also raised in a small town in Massachusetts with his parents and younger sister. He spent a lot of time with his grandparents and aunt, which resulted in many fond memories of exploring Chinatown and Boston.

We are close to both of our families and see each family often. Our families love getting together for family meals, cookouts, and holiday traditions. Terry’s family loves watching certain movies on different holidays, like Hocus Pocus on Halloween, and A Christmas Carol during Christmas. St. Patrick’s Day is an important holiday in her family; they make Leprechaun traps, eat corned beef and cabbage, and listen to live Irish music played by family friends.

Matt’s family participates in the Chinese tradition of tomb cleaning or tomb-sweeping day. All the relatives come together and pay respect to their deceased relatives by cleaning their tomb and burning incense

Both of our families are incredibly supportive of our decision to adopt, and our parents can’t wait to be grandparents. Our whole family is ready to welcome a child with open arms!

Thank You

We both want to thank you again for taking the time to review our book and consider us as prospective parents for this child. Our goal is to be the best parents possible. We look forward to caring for, raising, loving, and welcoming a child into our lives and home.

If we are chosen as adoptive parents, we promise to provide a safe and loving environment for a child to grow and flourish. It will be our mission to build a life for them filled with exciting and rich experiences and memories. They will be surrounded by a large loving family and close friends who will help to guide and care for them.

Any child in our care will have every opportunity to be who they want to be and do what they want to do. We will raise and support them to be a caring, independent, genuine, honest, self-confident, and kind child, who will be given all the tools to be successful in the future.

Sincerely,

Terry & Matthew
