Naomi & Sean - A Full Circle Adoptions

Introduction

Dear Expectant Parent(s),

Hi, we are Naomi and Sean.
We originally met through an online dating site but after our first date, we never looked back. We had a great time that night and continued to meet up again…and again…and again.

Our Story

We found fun adventures to do around town and the region that summer, and we were soon inseparable.

The pandemic brought us even closer together and after being cooped up in a small apartment for several months, we started house-hunting. We found a place that was just right for us and began making it ours. We enjoy having space for our friends and family to visit with us. Our home is filled with love.

After a few years, we got married at a venue by a historic train station. It was a unique setting and a wonderful day, and we were so grateful to have all our friends and family able to share the day with us. Now that we are happy and settled in our life together, our greatest desire is to become parents and share our love with a child. We are unable to have biological children and we are hoping to fulfill this desire through adoption. Naomi’s mother was adopted and she was always open about how she joined her family, so we are comfortable with adoption.

About Sean

I grew up in the city and was raised with loving parents but without a lot of stability. Finances were tight and that often meant moving from apartment to apartment and changing schools. These factors meant that I maybe grew up a little faster than other children. By the time I was nine years old, I was taking the subway to school every day — by myself. I’ve always valued my independence and the freedom that it provides.

Some of the formative experiences of my life have taken place while traveling, whether as a child or an adult. My mom is from Michigan and my dad was born in Ireland, and visiting family exposed me to new traditions, neighborhoods, and lands. When I went to Ireland for the first time, I understood a lot more about my dad than I had before. I also felt at home, even though I was far away from the city where I lived much of my life. I want to bring some of these wonderful experiences to our child, so they can see how others live on our shared planet. I have always been curious to know the specifics of why something happened the way that it did, and that’s probably what led me into journalism. I started writing and reporting while I was in eighth grade. It was hard to get adults to take an eighth grader seriously. For a long time, I was always the youngest reporter at the scene or in the newsroom. I have worked as an editor, writer, and web producer for various publications along the East Coast.

I now work in marketing and communications at a hospital in Boston, helping to maintain their website. I’ve grown to appreciate having a much better work-life balance in this job. I plan to be present for my child and to be a good example to him or her.

About Naomi

I grew up in a loving family with my parents, a brother, and my grandmother, who lived with us. I was very close with her and have precious memories of us picnicking and exploring the woods. We also read books together and she gave me a special set of books that I still treasure. My mother was an expert at creating fun events. She designed an epic treasure hunt birthday party, created crafts for my brother and me to do, and made special holiday presents and cards. I cannot wait to share activities and surprises with our child, like those that my grandmother and mother offered.

When I was a teacher, I loved being with the students and sharing my love of history. While middle schoolers can have a tough reputation, I loved being with them, even when they were their most teenage selves. After some time in the classroom, I decided to go back to my lifelong love of books and get a degree in School Librarianship. This new training led to a job as a digital learning specialist in my district – school librarians need to know a lot of tech! I work with teachers and with students of all ages, from kindergarten to high school. Since my mother was adopted, I have always thought of adoption as a positive option when the time came to have a family. I can’t wait to love a child who enters my heart through the gift of adoption.

Our Home

We live in a wonderful townhouse which is perfect for our lifestyle. We are within walking distance of parks and schools. We have been working, slowly but surely, to update our home. We have learned many home improvement skills, and among other skills, we are now experts at stripping wallpaper!

Our complex has a nice combination of young and older families. Kids ride their bikes and neighbors walk their dogs. We have a potluck picnic in the fall, where everyone brings a dish and a chair and we enjoy chatting and playing with the kids.

We really enjoy our town because of the location and all that it has to offer. We can ride the train to Boston to take advantage of the many museums, theaters, and other cultural activities. We can also go to Fenway Park to watch the Red Sox baseball team. We can drive to Cape Cod easily to enjoy the beaches, shops, and restaurants. Our town has two libraries, neighborhood schools, and is composed of people of diverse backgrounds. While our area is officially a city, it has more of a town feel. We think this is a great area to raise a child.

Our Family

We are fortunate to have family living close by. Naomi’s mother lives in a neighboring town, and her brother and wife live about an hour away. We have family get-togethers once a month, but we see Naomi’s mother more often, since she lives so close. Naomi’s father lives with his partner in Columbus, Ohio, where he grew up. Naomi visits them there at least twice a year, but they talk on the phone each week.

Sean’s mother lives a few miles from our home, and he goes over there regularly to help her with various tasks and errands. We’re always happy to welcome her into our home to visit and share meals.

Our family is very excited for us to adopt a child. Naomi’s mother is looking forward to spending time with her grandchild. She saved several items from Naomi’s childhood for a future grandchild, including a kid-sized craft table, from Naomi’s grandmother. We can’t wait to see our child busily creating drawings or crafts. Naomi’s brother and sister-in law are eager to have a little niece or nephew to dote on. Her father and his partner look forward to getting to know our child and showing them the sights in their area. Sean’s mom is very fond of her nieces and nephews and their children, and welcomes becoming a grandmother.

Our Hobbies, Interests & Traditions

We love to explore different spots around our area. If it’s a slow day, we’ll go out for a drive or a walk at a local beach. Sometimes we will just watch TV or spend time together at home. If we’re hungry, we’ll head out to try out a new local joint. We love going to different places and usually take one “big” trip each year, such as Hawaii or Ireland, in addition to visiting friends and family in other locations.

Naomi loves reading and watching movies or shows. Summer is her favorite season and she loves going to the beach and growing vegetables in pots on our front walkway. She is still perfecting growing cucumbers and bell peppers, but the tomatoes usually do really well. Sean is a history buff. He likes to take road trips to various out-of-the-way places to get a first-hand glimpse of history. Sean can always find something of interest, whether it’s a train ride into the city or a drive to a hidden ice cream stand.

We love hosting our family members for holidays. Thanksgiving is a favorite, with everyone gathering around our dining room table for traditional foods. We always end up with too many pies – one year we had one pie per person! Christmas is an all-day event, with present opening, singing, and trying new recipes for interesting side dishes. Family schedules can be hard to coordinate, so sometimes holidays aren’t on their proper date, but having everyone all together is more important to us than the date on the calendar.

Thank You
