Introduction
Dear Expectant Parent(s),
We’re Tim & Kayla, and we’ve been together since 2005, when we met in college, became close friends, and eventually fell in love.
Our Story
After a few years, we moved in together and built a life full of laughter, music, travel, and love. In 2014, we got married and chose to take some time to grow together and focus on our careers before starting a family.
When we were ready, we were excited to become parents, but after trying for some time without success, we learned that we would not be able to have biological children. That news was heartbreaking. As long as we can remember, all we’ve ever truly wanted was to be parents. We were lucky to grow up in families who were incredibly loving and supportive. They taught us what it means to show up, to listen, and to protect, and it’s that kind of steady love and care that we can’t wait to share with a child.
Adoption as a pathway to grow our family, is a conversation we’d had in-depth, even before facing infertility, but we knew we needed time to grieve and grow before we could truly be ready to parent through adoption. With support from each other, therapy, and the people we love, we worked through that chapter and emerged stronger and more committed than ever to becoming parents. We’ve taken classes, talked with adoptive families, and read everything we could about the realities of adoption (both the joys and the challenges), hoping to become parents. We are truly looking forward to this next season of our lives with hope and love, eager to welcome a little one into our family.
About Tim, by Kayla
Tim lights up every room he walks into. What first drew me to him was his larger-than-life energy. In college, he was always surrounded by friends, smiling and laughing. Everyone knew him as “Timmy,” a name that still fits his vibrant, joyful spirit. He openly loves and wears his heart on his sleeve and is always thinking of others—checking in, showing up, and making sure the people in his life feel seen and cared for. That warmth comes naturally to him, and is rooted in his close-knit, loving family.
Deeply passionate, creative, and driven, he’s a talented chef who has worked incredibly hard to get where he is. At home, he enjoys cooking or baking delicious treats in our home kitchen. He pours himself into everything he creates, and sharing meals with others is one of his favorite ways to show love. He prioritizes relationships and stays close with the people who matter most. Friends and extended family often say how grateful they are for the way he brings everyone together. I know without a doubt that these qualities (his devotion, energy, and huge heart) will make him an amazing father.
Tim has been wonderful in the short time we’ve had our puppy, Remy. He enjoys being outdoors, spending time in nature, and watching just about every New England sport on TV. It’s not uncommon for him to have a game on the TV and another streaming on his phone—he’s that passionate. He also has this charming habit of whistling around the house, just like his late grandfather used to—a small, sweet tradition that brings a smile to my face every time.
About Kayla, by Tim
The first thing that drew me to Kayla was her smile—always sincere and full of genuine enthusiasm—and it doesn’t take much time to realize that this a reflection of her deep desire for living a creative, meaningful life. She exudes an energy that is intoxicatingly uplifting. In college, she easily made friends with everyone and always ensured that no one was left out. I knew then that I wanted to be around that kind of memorable energy as much as possible. I was simply drawn to it—drawn to her.
When I met her family (who call her “Kake”), it became clear that this warmth is something she grew up with. The strong connections she has maintained with her friends and family (especially with her younger brother and cousins) are a testament to her values. It is very common for her to come home from work while talking on the phone, catching up with someone. “Kake” is an incredibly strong and independent woman who is always ready to lend a hand, an ear, or a shoulder. Her genuine friendliness shines through in everything she does.
She has worked hard and channeled her creativity into becoming a highly talented interior designer. Every space she touches carries her personal touch, always leaving a lasting impression. She fills our home with a special light through her artwork and love of plants. Her love for nature and color really comes to life in our gardens, organized so that there are continuous blooms in the spring and summer. She has created a small, handmade jewelry business, turning textiles and materials from her design field into stunning, meaningful pieces.
Our Home
We live in a small town in Maine, just outside of Portland, that has a strong sense of community and a deep connection to its history. The people here are friendly and welcoming, with a shared respect for the town’s past that makes it easy to feel at home.
We were lucky enough to purchase a small, cozy, newly-renovated, two-bedroom ranch home on a full acre of land in 2021. It’s a peaceful space, filled with light and love, space to play outside, and room to grow, dream, and feel safe.
Just minutes from our house, is access to hiking and walking trails, playgrounds, parks, shopping centers, and medical facilities. It’s just as easy to enjoy a night out in the city as it is to host a backyard cookout with friends. We’re centrally located, with easy access to the coast, mountains, and lakes, making it simple to enjoy all that Maine has to offer.
We rescued a sweet puppy from New York—his name is Remy. While he’s still learning commands, he’s full of energy, affection, and curiosity. We know he’ll make a wonderful furry friend for a child one day.
Our Family
We both come from similar backgrounds and were raised with strong values and deep family bonds. Our families are built on a foundation of respect, kindness, and genuine joy in spending time together. One of the many gifts of our relationship is how seamlessly our families have blended. Over the years, we’ve grown a strong sense of community within our families—one that we feel incredibly lucky to be part of.
We’re surrounded by loving, supportive people who show up for each other in big and small ways. Grandparents, aunts, uncles, cousins, and lifelong family friends often gather for hiking adventures, concerts, birthday parties, holiday celebrations, and sometimes just a quiet game night or movie on the couch. These moments are always filled with laughter, playful chaos, and a deep sense of belonging.
Tim’s parents, two brothers, sister, and their partners (plus a handful of beloved pets) live in the greater Boston area. Kayla’s parents and extended family are based in the central Maine area, with her brother and sister-in-law living in Minnesota. We also have close family in Arizona, New Hampshire, New York, North Carolina, and Texas. While some can visit more often than others, all are just a phone call or video chat away, and always ready with encouragement, support, or simply a listening ear. They are all so excited to welcome a new member to the family, to share in old traditions and create new ones with them, and to build lasting memories together.
Our Traditions, Hobbies and Interests
Growing up in Massachusetts and Maine, we both experienced family traditions that were deeply tied to the changing seasons. Holidays meant gathering with loved ones, playing games, sharing stories, and creating memories that still bring us comfort. Each celebration had its own special foods and rituals, and discovering we had some of these in common made those early connections between us even more meaningful.
We’re a down-to-earth couple who loves music, nature, good food, family, and friends, as much as enjoying quiet moments at home. Spending time outdoors has always been something we’ve both loved. Whether hiking local trails, swimming in the ocean, gardening, or sitting around a firepit, being outside was a regular part of life. Camping and road trips added a sense of freedom and exploration, while music—whether playing softly in the background or echoing through a concert venue—has always brought energy and joy to our lives.
We both enjoy sporting events, from watching a game with friends to cheering on our favorite teams in person. These shared interests have become part of our rhythm as a couple and the foundation of the life we’re building together.
We’re excited to carry these traditions forward and to create new ones as a family. Whether it’s an evening walk, a weekend camping trip, or a big holiday gathering, we look forward to time spent together in ways that feel meaningful, relaxed, and fun. Our hope is to offer a home where experiences are shared, values are passed along, and lasting memories are made.
