Introduction
Dear Expectant Parent(s),
Hello, we are Marc and Marybeth! We appreciate you taking the time to get to know us.
Our Story
We met through a dating app in February 2017. Marybeth was contemplating deleting her dating profile and debated whether to read the newest message, but luckily, Marc’s message stood out from all the other generic messages. From our first few messages, we knew that we wanted to learn everything about each other. We talked on the phone for hours, and a week later, went to dinner for our first date.
In the summer of 2018, we moved in together in a one-bedroom apartment. In October 2018, Marc proposed at one of our favorite places to visit in New Hampshire. Our original wedding plan went out the window with the arrival of the pandemic. Against all odds, we were able to purchase a house, move, and host a very small, intimate wedding in our backyard in 2020. We threw a huge party to celebrate our wedding with our loved ones in 2021.
No relationship or couple is perfect, but we make an incredible team. We bring balance to each other’s lives and see eye-to-eye on the major aspects in life. Individually, family and friends have been a huge part of our lives, and as a couple, they remain at the center. We are so incredibly lucky to be surrounded by a village that cannot wait to add another member.
We spent the first three years of marriage trying to start a family. We underwent infertility treatments and later, IVF treatments. Our IVF journey was long, difficult, and full of loss. Becoming parents is our dream and we are excited to pursue adoption.
About Marc
I am halfway through earning my Bachelor’s in Operation Management. I had previously attended college, but had to put getting my degree on hold to help with family obligations. I have been working in the consumer goods industry for many years, but I believe it is important to push and challenge yourself to be the best you can be, which is why I decided to finish school in the hopes that more opportunities will present themselves.
I enjoy hiking and exploring the outdoors as I have always had a sense of wonder for what is around me. I love to find new places to explore, places where once you reach the end of the trail, there is a view that leaves you in awe, like a city skyline or an endless view of rolling hills, which makes the journey worthwhile and rewarding.
Playing guitar, writing song lyrics, and creative writing are ways I spend my free time. This creative outlet helps me express my thoughts and feelings.
I hope to carry my sense of wonder and curiosity into fatherhood. I want our child to know that if they try their best, that effort is all that matters. Through every setback and success, I will be there to comfort and to celebrate with them.
About Marybeth
As a child, I dreamed of becoming an artist. I enjoyed art class and the freedom of creativity it gave. I spent weekends (and still do) creating all mediums of visual arts. Naturally, I decided to attend an art-based university majoring in metals and metalsmithing. Even though I now work in the medical field, I have never lost interest in art and use my spare time to paint and create enameled jewelry.
Baking and cooking are interests I developed as an adult. My first exposure was while I was away at college. Freshman year, I relied heavily on ramen noodles and microwaved meals. Sophomore year, I got the itch to venture outside of the easy and unhealthy foods. I found I really loved to cook and especially loved to bake, so much so that when I host Thanksgiving, I like to make most of the meal by myself to try new techniques and recipes. Every Sunday, Marc and I batch-cook meals to get ready for the week. I am looking forward to cooking and baking with a future child and making Sunday a family affair.
I am an avid reader. Every year, I challenge myself to read more books than I did the previous year, and I’m mostly successful. Ever since my nieces were babies, I have enjoyed reading books to them. They are now at the age where they read books to me and need only a little assistance in sounding new words out. I enjoy being active and being outdoors. My favorite family activity is taking a walk or hike with Marc and our two dogs.
Our Home
When touring houses, we just got a feeling that this house was meant to be ours. The house needed some cosmetic work, such as new flooring and a few new coats of paint, but we love a fun home project. Working on our house together is really what made it feel like home. Marybeth’s favorite rooms in the house are the kitchen and her home office where she works full-time. Not only is this where we enjoy cooking and baking some great food together, it is where we welcome and catch up with friends and family. Marc’s favorite room is the finished basement. The basement is what houses Marc’s guitars and gives him plenty of room to play them. We have a large backyard where we enjoy playing with our dogs, hosting a cookout, or enjoying our firepit.
We live in a suburban town in Massachusetts. Something that we enjoy about our location is the proximity to our families. Most weekends, some of our family members stop by for a visit. We find that our friends and family love being at our house, and we really enjoy hosting. Our neighbors are a very friendly, diverse, helpful, and welcoming group. It is a great area to walk our dogs around and we are fortunate to be just minutes away from some great hiking and biking trails, parks, and playgrounds. We are also not too far from some larger cities containing great museums, aquariums, and zoos.
Our Family
Family has always been important to us. We are very blessed to have fit in seamlessly with each other’s family. Marybeth has a large extended family – her dad is one of eight and her mom is one of six. She has many aunts and uncles, along with an abundance of cousins. We are very close with some of Marybeth’s cousins and are godparents to one of her cousin’s sons. Marc has a much smaller family but that makes it easier to get together with everyone during the holidays and for summer cookouts. We try to see both immediate families several times a month. We both have extremely close relationships with our nieces and nephew.
We have very supportive family and friends who cannot wait to see us become parents. Our closest friends are more like family and will be extra aunts and uncles to the child. Many of the extra aunts have already started listing the books they will read to the child and the museums and walking trails they plan to take them on. With our family and our closest friends, we will never be short on helping hands, support, and most importantly; love for the child.
Traditions, Hobbies and Interests
Like many other families, we have many traditions that center around the holidays, such as Marc’s family’s Christmas Eve party, hosted by his cousin. We have been hosting Thanksgiving since 2021, and love having everyone over and enjoying all the laughs and great food that we get to share. Every fall, we go apple picking with Marc’s family, who have been going since he was two. We have built on the tradition by bringing Marybeth’s nieces apple picking since the year the oldest turned two.
In the spring, summer, and fall, we enjoy going to local farmers markets. We also frequently go to craft and food fairs. We enjoy going to all kinds of museums and art exhibits. We are lucky to live close enough to Boston to be able to enjoy the Museum of Fine Arts and Museum of Science.
We both enjoy hiking and being active outdoors and taking our two dogs, Pumpkin and Penny, for a walk around the neighborhood, on a trail through the woods, or for a more challenging hike up a mountain. We regularly take a family vacation to New Hampshire or Maine where we will hike or just enjoy the great restaurants in the area. Once, we completed a six-mile canoe trip down the Delaware River Gap and can’t wait to take another canoe trip. We are excited to share with a child our love of the outdoors, of nature, and of taking it all in.
Thank You
We thank you so much for your time in looking at, reading through, and learning about our family. We commend you for opening your heart to the idea of adoption. Adoption is such a brave and loving path, and we’re sure this decision is not taken lightly. We have been dreaming of becoming parents for years and cannot wait to open our hearts and give all our love to a child.
We believe that it is so important for a child to know where they come from and we will always remind them of the loving choice that their birthparents made. We are open to any level of openness that you prefer. Birthparents are such an important part of any child’s story, and we will always remind the child of the strength and selfless love it took to come to the decision of adoption.
We can’t wait to hold a child in our arms, and we will make sure to do everything we can to ensure that they grow up with happiness and love, and always feel supported. We come from very loving, supportive, and helpful families who cannot wait to add another member to the family. We have chosen a very open, welcoming and loving community to be a part of and our town is known for its fantastic school system.
We are so excited to become parents, to share our traditions, and to create new ones. We wish you luck as you decide what is best for you and the baby. Please know that we are extremely grateful for your consideration of us as prospective parents.
Sincerely,
