Introduction
Dear Expectant Parent(s),
Hi, we’re Skye and Chris. We’re so grateful you’re taking the time to get to know us, and we’re excited about the possibility of connecting with you.
Our Story
Our story began in 2011, in a way that still makes us laugh. Chris was out with a friend when he spotted Skye having dinner at a restaurant. Nervously, he struck up a conversation and accidentally brushed his hand against her food – we call it “the accidental hamburger touch”! Skye thought he was charming in a goofy way, and Chris was drawn to her warmth and kindness. He left the restaurant with her number.
Our first date was a pizza lunch where we talked for hours. The conversation felt natural and easy, and we knew we had something special. Our next dates were filled with improv shows, movie nights, and time with family and friends. The connection was undeniable. We feel lucky to have a relationship rooted in respect, love, and equally important, laughter!
Five years later we were married, and we’re now “Auntie Skye” and “Uncle Chris” to three nephews and to the kids of several close friends. We’re so excited to become parents ourselves. After facing fertility challenges, adoption feels like the perfect path for us. Our hearts are full of love and joy to share with a child.
Thank you for considering us – we’d be honored to be part of your journey.
About Chris by Skye
Chris is incredibly thoughtful and has a calming presence that makes everyone around him feel at ease. He brings humor and a touch of silliness to our relationship. While he’s often the quietest person in the room, you can count on him for the perfectly timed joke that gets everyone laughing.
Originally from Michigan, Chris moved to Massachusetts after college for an internship and never left. He works as an engineering manager, and he and his team solves problems to make the world more sustainable. I admire how he can make complex topics understandable, and I can’t wait to see him do that with a child.
Chris has always been active. He grew up running with his dad, playing roller hockey, and competing with his high school tennis team. Today, he participates in triathlons, and his passion for sports is contagious – so much so that I now run, and we’ve completed several half marathons together!
At home, Chris is “Chef Chris,” making everything from chocolate chip cookies to sourdough bread and epic brunches that are famous with our friends. Cooking is just one of the many ways he brings joy to those around him.
Fun Facts About Chris:
He learned to play the drums in middle school and still enjoys jamming on his drum set.
He had an internship at KitchenAid and got to work on the exact stand mixers he now uses to make his bread and cookies.
He has bowled a 270! (300 is a perfect game)
About Skye by Chris
Skye is funny, loving, and truly warmhearted, generously giving her time and energy to others. Whether she’s arranging dinner with friends or catching up with family by phone, connections are incredibly important to her. I’m excited to see her bring this to parenthood.
One of Skye’s superpowers is her ability to bring order to chaos – be it organizing our DIY projects, managing our budget, or planning our weekly dinners, she always has a plan. Her superpowers – organizing and caring for others – make her a success at work where she’s part of the leadership team for a local business consulting firm.
Skye is an avid reader, and library trips are one of our favorite things to do together. She always leaves with multiple books in hand. Her love of reading inspired me to start reading again, and it’s now a tradition for us to exchange books on Christmas Eve.
Growing up with cats, dogs, hamsters, and a guinea pig, Skye’s love for animals is a big part of her life. Our home is decorated with quirky animal pictures, and we have welcomed a puppy named Reuben into our family. We love to think of Reuben growing up alongside a child as his best friend.
Fun Facts About Skye:
She was born in Canada and lived there until she was six.
She eats spaghetti and meatballs for her birthday dinner every year.
She loves school, so much so that she has two master’s degrees!
Our Home
Our home is on a peaceful cul-de-sac in a suburban neighborhood in Massachusetts with over an acre of yard space – perfect for year-round activities like building snowmen, playing catch, or roasting marshmallows by the firepit. We have a large pond and protected forest behind our house, which we love for hiking and the occasional beaver sighting!
One of our favorite things is taking walks with our puppy, Reuben, through the neighborhood. We often stop to chat with neighbors, watch kids ride bikes to the local “treasure library”, or, if we’re lucky, see our neighbor’s horses.
We’re fortunate to have many fun places close by – beaches, hiking trails, and several larger cities are just a drive away. The best part of our location, though, is that we have family nearby. We all enjoy frequent dinners, summer concerts in the park, and pool time at Skye’s parents’ house together.
While we love our location, it’s the coziness inside our home that we cherish most. It’s our happy place, where weekends start with pancakes at the breakfast table and free time is spent curled up with a good book. We love hosting friends and their kids for brunch or a Disney movie day, and we’re famous for having snacks and blankets ready for everyone! We look forward to sharing our home and community with a child.
Our Family
We have family both nearby and spread across the country, all of whom are eager to share their love and support with a little one. We both grew up surrounded by family, and we’re excited to give that same closeness, connection, and community to a child.
Skye’s brother, his wife, and their two sons live in the same town as us, so we look forward to the cousins growing up together, sharing trips to the museum and the aquarium, and creating happy memories. Skye’s parents, “Granny” and “Grandad”, live a short drive away, and are eager to shower another grandchild with affection.
Though Chris’ family mostly lives in the Midwest, we’re fortunate to see them often, whether we fly back for the holidays or they visit us. Chris’ parents, “Grandma” and “Grandpa”, welcomed their first grandchild in 2024, and are beyond excited to sign up for twice the cuddles and playtime. Chris’ mom is a retired teacher, so we’ll lean into her wisdom as we navigate parenting.
Chris’ older sister and husband have a young toddler, and his younger sister is busy living in a big city and launching her career. They’re all especially excited to share their love of hockey and travel with a new niece or nephew.
We feel incredibly grateful that our family has so much love, support, and encouragement to offer a child.
Our Traditions
We love creating traditions. From simple things like ‘Chef Chris’ breakfasts and heart-shaped pizzas for Valentine’s Day to big gatherings with friends and family for the holidays, traditions give us things to look forward to all year long.
Thanksgiving with Chris’ extended family is a big event — there’s a turkey trot, football watching, and a friendly ping pong tournament where everyone, young and old, competes for the trophy. We have a ping pong table in our basement so we can practice all year-round!
Christmas is our favorite time of year. We love the winter magic and especially enjoy strolling through a holiday light display with hot chocolate in hand. At home, we put up three (yes, three!) Christmas trees, listen to carols, and decorate with ornaments collected over the years. We can’t wait to add another stocking to the mantle for a little one.
In the fall, we go apple picking, surrounded by the beautiful New England foliage, and nothing beats warm apple cider donuts afterward. Summers are filled with beach trips, fruit picking, poolside afternoons, and family barbecues.
In addition to all of these seasonal traditions, Skye’s family is big into birthdays! They’re always made special with a family party and a custom ice cream cake.
These are just a few of our favorite traditions. We look forward to creating many more as our family grows.
